After a year of responding to serial crises and engaging hundreds of tenants across Los Angeles, we believe it is strategic to formalize the Rent Brigade into a dues-paying membership-based structure.  If we are serious about structural change, we have to be equally serious about organization. The real estate industry did not become powerful by accident. It built durable institutions, funded them consistently, developed leadership, and maintained long-term political strategy.

The Rent Brigade makes a commitment to our members to advocate, campaign, and fight for the interests of renters across the County, where renters constitute the majority. Members receive a newsletter focused on tenant issues, invitations to political education events, access to a members-only reading group, and opportunities to participate in teach-ins and workshops.

What is expected of me as a member?

There are no obligations beyond paying monthly dues. However, we will share opportunities for you to get more involved, including working on campaigns or attending workshops and public events. Read our member FAQ for more info.

We will mail you a membership card with your name after you join!

Join our first members-only reading group on April 12!

*A note on dues. Dues are not primarily about revenue, though sustainable funding matters, but about the consolidation of power. As such, we do not have a minimum membership fee requirement. You can pay $1 a month, or $50 a month. We encourage sliding scale participation. Your contributions help us cover costs such as venues for political education events, printed materials for actions, and research tools that support our organizing and campaigns.
